Get Rid of Odor Vinegar is good for getting rid of very strong smells like burnt food or fish, pet odor or even new paint. Place a small bowl of white or apple cider vinegar in the room where the smell is strongest. To freshen your whole house use several bowls in each room.
Get Rid of Mildew Use to eliminate mildew in bathrooms, on walls, furniture or clothing. Simply make a solution of half water half vinegar for light stains or full strength for heavy stains.
Eliminate Pet Stains and Odors
Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle and spray carpets or furniture to remove odors. Allow to air dry. A bonus is the strong smell can deter animals from remarking the same spot.
Remove Stains and Odors From Hands Wash hands in full strength vinegar to remove staining caused by cherries, berries and other food. Rub on hands before and after handling strong scented foods life onions, garlic or fish to remove the odor.
Treat Sunburn Simply apply vinegar to a cotton ball and dab on effected skin. This works best if done before it starts to sting.
Ease Sore Muscles Add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to your bath water to ease sore muscles and relax after a tense day.
Treat age or dark spots on skin Apply vinegar to a cotton ball and apply to affected area, leave on for at least 10 minutes. Repeat twice a day. Marks should fade or disappear within a couple of weeks.
Remove stickers and price tags Cover sticker or price with vinegar then scrap off with an old credit card or plastic spatula. Put vinegar on sticky residue and allow to soak for a couple of minutes then wipe off.
Unclog and Deodorize drains
To treat sinks and bathtub clogs, use a funnel to pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down drain, then 1 cup of vinegar. When the foaming stops flush with hot water wait five minutes then flush with cold water. For a slow drain use 1/2 cup of salt followed by 2 cups of boiling vinegar. Flush with hot then cold water. The vinegar removes the smell as well.
Clean ballpoint pen stains To remove stain from wall dab stain with full strength vinegar until stain is gone. To get ink stains out of clothes wet stain with vinegar then apply a paste of 2 parts vinegar and 3 parts cornstarch. Allow to dry before washing.
Clean Coffee Pots Fill the coffee pot with 2 cups of white vinegar and 1 cup of water. Put in a clean filter and add water mixture to the water chamber. Allow to run through the full brew cycle. Replace the filter with a clean one and brew fresh water through 2 cycles.
Make Sink Fixtures Shine Spray full strength vinegar on faucets and then buff with a soft clothe.
Trap Fruit Flies Fill a jar half full of apple cider vinegar, poke holes in the lid and then screw it back on. Sit in the kitchen or where you see the fruit flies. Because they are attracted to the smell they will get stuck when they enter the jar.
Get Rid of Ants Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of half water half vinegar, spray where you see ants or ant hills, they don’t like the strong smell and will quickly move on. You can also use the solution to wipe down surfaces where you have seem them in your house.
Minimize Bruises Soak gauze in white or apple cider vinegar, place on affected area for an hour. This will also help speed healing time.
Treat Dandruff Massage 3 tablespoons of vinegar into your hair and scalp before you shampoo. Leave in for a few minutes and rinse out. Shampoo as usual.
Treat Corns and Calluses Soak a piece white bread 1/4 cup vinegar for 30 minutes. Then use a piece of the bread large enough to completely cover the corn or callus, secure with gauze or tape and leave on overnight. In the morning the hardened skin should be dissolved and easy to remove. Repeat process to remove thicker calluses.
Treat Carpet Stains For light stains, rub stain with a mixture of 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons of salt. Let dry and then vacuum. For larger stains add 2 tablespoons to the previous mixture and use the same way.
Get Rid of Fleas Fill a water bottle with mixture of half water and half white vinegar. Vacuum carpets, then spray mixture on carpets, bedding and furniture and allow to air dry. Repeat daily until fleas are gone.
Wash Your Floors Add a cup of white vinegar and a couple of drops of dish soap to a bucket of hot water. Wash floor as usual. This mixture will clean dirt and grime and deodorize your floor without leaving behind a sticky film. Not recommended for wood or marble. Check your manufacturers instructs for other non linoleum floors. This can also be used as a general cleaning solution.
